College 101: How College Works

About this course

College is a huge investment of both time and money, so why not learn how college works before you begin?  During the past two years of the pandemic many college orientation programs have been reduced, moved online, abbreviated, or eliminated altogether.  The end result is that many college students don't know how college works because nobody has ever told them.  Maximize valuable semester time by first learning how college degree requirements are categorized.  Ultimately reduce frustration by playing to the strengths of your personal Learning Style, which you will discover through a self-assessment.  Discover how degrees are structured, what constitutes a credit hour, how to be more efficient with satisfying requirements, how to calculate your GPA Grade Point Average, how you learn best, and how to write a SMART Goal.  Throughout the course you will be guided to complete separate elements of the College 101 Project that includes your degree plan, Excel spreadsheet with courses mapped out, Learning Styles Assessment, study tips, and a personal SMART goal.  You are encouraged to check with your institution's registrars office regarding specific course requirements and which core curriculum requirements may be satisfied by course substitutions.  You are also encouraged to save all documents to the cloud, as well as keep paper copies in a folder for future reference.
