About this course

Introduction: Most of us avoid thinking or talking about death. In many cultures, it is the last great taboo — a topic we save for later, or for someone else to deal with. Yet death is universal. It touches every one of us, whether through personal loss, the slow decline of a loved one, a sudden goodbye, or the quiet realization of our own mortality as we age. And when we do not talk about it, we are left unprepared, afraid, and unsure of how to show up for ourselves and for others in times of loss.This course was created to change that — gently.Death, Dying and You: Becoming Comfortable with the Uncomfortable invites you to explore your relationship with death, dying, and grief with openness, courage, and care. It is not a course about endings. It is a course about living more fully — by facing what we often fear most, and discovering the freedom, peace, and clarity that can arise when we do.Whether you are grieving, caregiving, preparing for your own later years, or simply seeking a more grounded relationship with life’s impermanence, this course offers a supportive and reflective space to grow. It is for anyone — regardless of age, background, or belief system — who wants to become more at ease with mortality, and more present to what truly matters.Through a thoughtful mix of self-reflection, journaling, creative exercises, and personal exploration, you will examine the beliefs, fears, cultural messages, and personal histories that have shaped your understanding of death. You will be invited to:Explore your current comfort level with death using a death anxiety assessment.Reflect on the cultural and familial beliefs you have inherited about grief and loss.Engage with stories, articles, and videos from hospice workers, caregivers, and individuals who have faced death firsthand.Write your own obituary — not as an exercise in morbidity, but as a powerful tool for clarity
