About this course

This course takes you from complete beginner to fluent in Coptic (Bohairic dialect), so you can use it confidently as your everyday language in any situation. You’ll also gain the ability to easily understand all other Coptic dialects—whether reading, writing, listening, or speaking—in both daily life and academic study. By deeply learning Coptic culture and mindset, you’ll start thinking like native speakers. Here you will master authentic, correct pronunciation along with the real culture and mindset that lead to 100% fluent, natural speech. In this level (Level 1), we will begin by thoroughly mastering all the sounds of the language, along with writing the letters correctly. We will cover foundational topics such as existence (the verb "to be"), possession (how to express ownership), the first three important tenses (likely focusing on present and basic constructions), and several other key grammatical rules that will help build a strong foundation and set us firmly on the right path in the language. By the end of this level, you will be able to:Read any Coptic text and understand its general context.Use dictionaries effectively.Express daily events and actions in correct, clear sentences.This level lays the essential groundwork for fluent and natural use of Bohairic Coptic!Over the course of 4 levels, we begin by mastering the sounds and letters with precision. We do not move on to anything else until the pronunciation (articulation points) and letter writing are perfectly mastered. We then progress to the simple basic grammar rules, gradually advancing to more complex ones in a solid, structured way for learning and mastering the language—focusing on the most commonly used rules first, from easiest to hardest, and using the least complex structures at the start.
