Introduction

MP3 players, train schedules, process optimization, MRI scanners, election analyses, online banking—mathematics is ubiquitous. This master's program in mathematics offers a comprehensive range of courses in pure and applied mathematics. The program's objective is to deepen and expand upon students' mathematical understanding and to teach them how to conduct independent research. Students may also take part in a research team. This program is taught in English.

Admission Requirements

Applicants to the master’s program must meet the following criteria:

  • They must have a first university degree, generally a bachelor's degree in mathematics or an equivalent program.
  • They must be proficient in English.

More Information

This is a two-year master's program.

  • The first year consists of lectures and seminars of increasing difficulty. Students may choose courses based on their own abilities and interests.
  • In the second year, students can choose from a large spectrum of electives, particularly in the Department’s three key research areas: algebraic, geometrical, and discrete structures; optimization and partial differential equation; and probability and mathematical statistics.
  • Students also complete their master's thesis in the second year. An individually tailored introductory project imparts the skills and knowledge required for a student's chosen area of research. In a subsequent preparatory project, students are made familiar with the special mathematical methods required for their master's thesis. In their second year, students are supervised by a professor and also take an active part in a research team.
