Transmission Line Engineering: Civil, Mechanical and Cables

About this course

This specialization includes three core courses: Design of Transmission Lines: Mechanical Aspects and Civil Foundations, Overhead Insulators and Route Survey in HV Transmission Lines, and HVDC Transmission, Underground Cables and AC Power Distribution Systems. The first course introduces mechanical design aspects such as sag–tension analysis, loading, span, clearance, and foundation practices. The second focuses on route surveying, Right-of-Way (RoW) requirements, tower manufacturing, and insulator design for HV/EHV systems. The third covers underground cables, HVDC technologies, and AC distribution systems, including cable design, converters, and voltage regulation. Learning Objectives: Understand transmission line surveying and RoW planning; analyze tower design and mechanical loading; perform sag–tension and clearance calculations; evaluate insulator performance; explain HVDC system components; apply underground cable analysis and AC distribution concepts. Target Learners / Audience: Suitable for electrical engineering students, graduate engineers, and industry professionals seeking practical knowledge in transmission line design, HV systems, and power distribution networks.
