Operations are complex and require experts in every position. Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) play a vital role in the perioperative team, working in this specialist and dynamic environment, they provide care during the anaesthetic, surgical and recovery phases of a patient’s hospital treatment. ODPs require in-depth knowledge and skills in areas such as anatomy and physiology, illness and disease, surgical and anaesthetic procedures, legal and ethical issues, and teamwork. With practical experience gained in a variety of settings, upon successful completion of this programme you will be equipped with the skills to enable you to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a qualified ODP. You can choose to study at the Edge Hill University campus or St James’, our Manchester city centre location.
Typical offer 104-112 UCAS Tariff points, for which no specific subjects are required, plus GCSE English Language and GCSE Mathematics at Grade C or Grade 4 or above (or equivalent).
Eligible candidates must provide evidence of study within the five years prior to application. An interview forms part of the selection process.
If you accept an offer from Edge Hill you will need to satisfy the requirements of the Health and Care Professions Council in respect of physical and mental fitness and will be required to apply for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Enhanced Disclosure indicating that you meet the mandatory criteria of ‘Clearance to Work with Children and/or Vulnerable Adults’.
