About this course

On completion of this module, you will be able to identify the range of environments in which procurement and supply are expected to operate, and the external factors that can impact overall success.Procurement and supply are to operate in a varied range of environments. In addition to the public and private sectors, those responsible for the procurement and supply function may find themselves working with individuals in not-for-profit organisations. This module is designed for those who are involved in the procurement and supply function, who must recognise the broader environment in which they work and the impacts that different types of organisations can have on successfully meeting overall organisational needs. They must know the importance of the external environment and also identify the procedures that regulate procurement and supply.Did you know: In the UK, public procurement accounts for roughly one-third of all public spending — over £300 billion a year — and is governed by strict transparency and competition rules set out in the Public Contracts Regulations 2015 (and now evolving under the Procurement Act 2023).By contrast, private procurement (how businesses buy goods and services) is unregulated, mainly because companies can choose their suppliers however they wish. This flexibility means private firms often focus on speed, relationships, and innovation, while public bodies must prioritise fairness, value for money, and accountability.This module has four outcomes.
